Excursion to the Karen Blixen Museum in Nairobi

Its history dates back to 1914, during the First World War, with the arrival of Karen Blixen from Denmark. At the foot of Ngong Hills, Karen Blixen established herself as a farmer. After her departure in 1931, the suburbs retained the commemorative home of Karen.

This is the beautiful farmhouse where Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa, lived between 1914 and 1931, until she left Kenya after a series of personal tragedies. The house was restored by the Danish government, and was used during the filming of “Out of Africa” which immortalized Karen Blixen’s book by the same name. The museum was opened to the public in 1986.

Tour to the Elephant Orphanage – Daphne Sheldrick Foundation

This is an orphanage for Elephant and Rhinos Calves from all over Kenya. It was David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi, The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for Orphaned Elephants in Nairob, city tours and excursionsfounded and is still managed by Daphne Sheldrick, the widow of the best known Game Warden, David Sheldrick.

The young calves which are orphaned by poaching from various Parks are brought here and nursed until they are believed to be out of danger then released back to various parks to rejoin their colleagues.

The visit is done during the feeding hours which fall between 11:00am to Noon every other day. There is no park fee but only your humble contributions to the trust.
